Common Sense Guidelines for the Miniature Pinscher Owner and Breeder

• No one should buy their first Miniature Pinscher with the idea of breeding the primary object in the acquisition of the breed.
• No one should contemplate raising the miniature pinscher unless he is prepared to keep every puppy himself, to spay or neuter it. This does not mean that the breeder will have to resort to these measures necessarily, but he must be willing and able to do so should it become necessary when suitable new owners are not forthcoming.
• Immature bitches should not be bred until their second season. Certainly not until they are at least eighteen (18) months old.
• It is preferable to skip seasons when using a bitch as a brood. As long as a bitch is healthy, the occasion may arise when back to back breedings are in order.
• Anyone selling a Miniature Pinscher should screen buyers as carefully as possible.
• Breeders should impress on all new owners that the breeder will buy back for the selling price any min pin that does not fit in its new household.
• A definite request should be made at the time of sale that the miniature pinscher not be resold without contacting the breeder for help or allowing him/her, at that time, to buy back the dog.
• Owners of dogs used at stud share one hundred percent in the responsibility for the welfare of the breed.
  • No dog should be used at stud to a bitch whose ownership cannot be proven.
  • No dog should be used at stud to a poor specimen. Temperament must be included as a most important item in this evaluation.
  • No dog should be used at stud to any bitch whose owner is not willing to cooperate in all efforts to protect the breed welfare.
  • Stud dog owners should know under what sort of conditions the owner of the bitch expects to raise the litter.

These are to be considered common sense guidelines and the Officers and Board of Directors of the Miniature Pinscher Club of America, Inc. encourage members to read and follow these suggestions. Each contemplated breeding is a matter for individual study of both dog and bitch and their suitability for use at that specific time.

A breeder's listing here is not an endorsement by the Miniature Pinscher Club of America, Inc. The MPCA strongly suggest that all buyers carefully document, in writing, all promises, statements, warranties and guarantees made by the sellers of puppies or older dogs. The MPCA is interested in the integrity of its members and welcomes comments from anyone who contacts one of the breeders listed.
